Alan Titchmarsh Show

Nichola Stars Again

Oxford Archer Nichola Simpson made an appearance on the Alan Titchmarsh show in March, promoting archery alongside the release of Russell Crowe's Robin Hood film. The host and another guest were invited to have-a-go, with surprising results, ending with Alan very kindly plugging the GNAS.

The show was broadcast on 24th March and can be viewed via this link.

Nic's part is about seven minutes in.

Bulls on Parade!

Have you spotted them yet? Our very own Karin and Marc Hildenbrand have made the pages of ArcheryUK - in full colour pictures which perfectly bring out our lovely club colours! (Marc on pages 22 and 24, Karin on page 23). The pictures were taken at the Junior Nationals, the first one for these two juniors - but certainly not the last! All our juniors (Karen and Marc, and Cameron and Owen Murray - unfortunately not caught so spectacularly on camera) acquitted themselves well.
Also check page 2 of the ArcheryGB insert which lists Kat Baier as 14th on the National Rankings, and Nic Simpson as 2nd!

Indoor Field Shoot

'Indoor' Field Shoot - 25th February 2010

FieldArcheryTeamIt seems like everybody had an enjoyable time at this fun shoot. Targets were organised by Ian Simpson and his team to try and give the archers a taste of the challenges of field archery - awkward shooting angles, no marked distances and varied targets (including a very small and lucky snake).

Jock Murray and Nat Merry finished 1st and 2nd, but with two juniors and one novice from the last Beginner's course in the top six it was clearly an event for all. Must do it again next year Ian. Pictures from Holger in the Gallery.

Vegas 2010

NFAA World Archery Festival - Vegas 2010

The premier US Indoor tournament. Hosted in Las Vegas and shot on a Vegas 3-spot target at 20yds over 3 days. Oxford Archer Nichola Simpson, winner in 2008 and 2009, is battling to win this prestigious event for the third year in a row. After 2 days Nichola lies second, one point off the lead. At this level you need to be shooting the maximum of 300 per round or one less to be in with a chance. Nichola has shot 299 and 299 (44 X's). Kendal Nicely of the US has shot 299 and 300 (35 X's).

Uncharacteristically, Nic shot a 298 in the last round and finished fourth. The American trio of Kelly Ward, Mary Hamm and Christie Colin posted 300's to leap to the fore (Kendal Nicely, 297 in 6th). How annoying.

White Arrows

beginners_course_winter_2010

Congratulations to all of those on the last Beginner's Course. Despite a few problems with the weather and a delayed start, all nine aspiring archers successfully earned their FITA White Arrow award by the end of the course on 11th February. Judging by the smiles they enjoyed the experience, and judging by the comments of Nat, Antje, Jock and Shaun (and any other Oxford Archer who helped out) they deserved their White Arrow badge. We all hope to see you on the shooting line again - as Oxford Archers - sometime soon.
